Personal Theme Music
I like the TV cartoon "Family Guy." In one episode Peter Griffin gets three wishes from a genie (There's the link for you Googlers) and immediately blows the first one on personal "Theme Music." He proceeds to run around abusing it. Hilarious concept, but when you think about it, wouldn't it be great if everyone had their own personal theme music? It might just be the ultimate vanity.
I started thinking of various friends and wondering what their theme music might sound like. I ran with the idea and created several themes. The concept was to imagine life more vividly than it really is.
I composed all the music here in GarageBand, which it a rudimentary MIDI sequencer for the Mac. I didn't waste much time perfecting these themes. I was more interested in dreaming up the concept and then quickly getting it down without beating the idea to death. If the mood strikes me just right, I can knock out a theme quickly. The SEG-NH Rowdies theme was completely nailed in one afternoon. On the other hand, Smooth James had to sit for weeks and be revisted several times.
Here are a few samples. There are plenty more where these came from. Enjoy!

SEG-NH Rowdiness: For this piece I reminisced about the intro music from those cheesy 70's action sit-coms. If riding with my SEG-NH buddies came with music, this is how it would sound. It's mischevious, upbeat, funky and fun. There's a great breakdown in the middle and ya' just gotta' love that rattlesnake Vibraslap!

Smooth James: Slow, cool jazz. I envisioned James Mercer wearing a rumpled suit and smoking unfiltered cigarettes. He's driving back to NJ after a long night in a club. He maneuvers a Cadillac convertible with one hand and doesn't have a care in the world. This is one cool cat. 1:16 - 1.5M MP3 Smooth James

Amazon: Conflicting musical genres woven together. I composed this when I lived in downtown Boise. Music is a powerful trigger and this will alway remind me of the Idaho Building. Amazon drones along with a moody undercurrent but nothing terribly exciting happens, kinda' like Boise itself. 2:38 - 3.0M MP3 Chris Johnson - Amazon

Elizabeth's Sunflowers: In this string quartet, I imagined Elizabeth McFarland gardening in the early morning. Her dogs run in grass still wet with morning dew. The air is fresh and this will certainly be a wonderful day. 0:44 - 863K MP3 Elizabeth's Sunflowers

Flying Solo: An ambient trance composition. For this piece I considered my nephew's first solo flight. It's an unusual ambient track with a dark feel. Listen closely for radio chatter and a passing jet. 1:12 - 1.4M MP3 Adam Queen - Flying Solo
